In my 18 years of life, I’ve received quite a few gifts, and I’ve noticed something about myself. It’s the little, unexpected things that make me the happiest, and those are the ones I will keep forever.
For example, this little figurine of a girl. She has a few chips, and the wire swing she used to sit on has been missing for years. She used to belong to my grandparents. I loved going to their house and looking at her, and watching her sway back and forth on her swing. She was a little thing, something my grandparents may not have given much thought to. One day, they gave her to me. I was probably six or seven at the time, and I still remember how excited I was. I felt guilty at their generosity, and I had a plan to replace her for them. Eventually, I found the perfect wooden figurine in a country store. She was bigger, painted in natural colors, and, of course, sitting on a swing.
My grandparents kept that in their living room for the rest of their lives, sitting out where everyone could see it. I plan to keep this little girl forever, the same way they kept mine.
Have a lovely day!
