photography

an introduction.

24003479706_6fac457102_oHi, I’m Callista (or Callie, but Callista sounds much more official, don’t you think?) I’m an aspiring photographer who is passionate about taking beautiful photographs that make people feel something when they look at them. That’s my goal, anyway.

Aside from just taking pictures, I’m also addicted to photoshop, online tutorials, and reading other people’s photo blogs. The piece of advice I found most often is this: Take one picture every day for a year. (That and “never shoot in auto,” something I have to work on as well.) It sounds simple enough, but I need motivation to never skip a day, and that motivation is you, person reading this. You are wonderful. You are the reason I take pictures. Thank you so much for just being yourself 🙂

And how, other than simply being you, can you help me? You can leave me feedback in the comments! Good, bad, or neutral, I can take it all, as long as it is productive and helps me grow as an artist, I really appreciate it. But this doesn’t have to be one sided. If you are feeling uninspired or need a second opinion on your own work, leave me a comment and I’ll be happy to help. Or, if you yourself are incredibly inspiring and have a post you think I would enjoy reading, let me know! You’re probably right, I do love reading.

Wrapping up, let me explain how this is going to work. Starting January 1st of 2016, I will post a picture every day, with the number picture that I am up to, ending with 365. Some days, when I’m uninspired or have little free time, that will be it. Other days you may get a bit more background on how the picture was taken and the thought process that went into it. Also, because of my addiction to tutorials, if I use one as inspiration or to try out a new technique, I’ll give credit to the source so you can try it out, too. If I post one of a small series, I might lead you back to my Flickr to see the rest. In fact, you can look there now to see some of my best photos up to this point: https://www.flickr.com/photos/132000877@N05/

Disclaimer: not every photograph will be a masterpiece. Not every blurb will make sense. I may or may not be slightly insane (probably not a good thing to say on a first blog post). I am incredibly nervous.

This is going to be fantastic!

Edit: April 28, 2016 marks the official end of my attempted 365 project.

  1. Thanks for following my blog. I hope it’s an inspiration for your project. I have less than 2 weeks left with the photography portion, and there’s more work to be done once that’s finished.

      1. Once I finish I will start working on creating a slideshow and a mosaic. I’ll also be trying to raise money to make prints for a gallery display. I may set up a crowdfunding campaign, but I’ve never done that before.
